The Yoga Club

Image
Book Description   Chatting it up with bendy WASPs is the last thing on Coco Guthrie’s mind during her 8:30 a.m. yoga class. Having made her fortune as the world-renowned inventor of Butt-B-Gone derriere cream, Coco still doesn’t feel like she belongs among the upper class— until she attends the swankiest Halloween soiree in Greenwich, Connecticut, where three of her fellow morning yogis shared her brilliant idea to appear as Sarah Palin. Soon it’s clear that a love of stretching isn’t all this accidental sorority—which includes a single mom with echolalia, an entertainment reporter who charms the pants off handsome stars, and a drama-prone producer with a taste for drag— have in common. When the four mischievous Sarahs wander away from the party to sneak a peek at the mayor’s neighboring estate, they are stunned to find him adorned in leather and latex, and rolling up a woman’s body in a Persian rug. To make matters worse, someone has spotted the spying Palins. Someone who thr

River’s Call

Image
Book Description   Anna Larson's daughter, Lauren, is confused, brokenhearted, and misguided. It's the turbulent 1960s and feeling alienated from her mother, Lauren chooses to stay with her paternal grandmother. However, repelled by the woman's manipulative and spiteful ways, Lauren returns to her mother, the river, and the Inn at Shining Waters. Book Review   You may recall that it was fairly recently that I reviewed the first book in this series, River’s Song .  This book picks up where the last one left off. However, even though I did read the first book prior to reading this one, I honestly feel that you can read them as stand alone books as well.  But I really suggest reading them in order.  You will definitely get much more enjoyment out of them. The story is compelling and I loved revisiting all the characters that I fell in love with from the first book.  I certainly hope that she is planning on writing more in this series.  I want to find out what e

Book Review   This book was a very quick read for me.  It was an interesting read, but it wasn’t completely compelling.  In other words, it wasn’t a book that I just didn’t want to put down.  However, it was a book that I didn’t mind picking back up again.  So I guess you could say it was an average rating book. The characters w

The Forever Girl

The Orphan Sister

Image
Book Description   Clementine Lord is not an orphan. She just feels like one sometimes. One of triplets, a quirk of nature left her the odd one out. Odette and Olivia are identical; Clementine is a singleton. Biologically speaking, she came from her own egg. Practically speaking, she never quite left it. Then Clementine’s father—a pediatric neurologist who is an expert on children’s brains, but clueless when it comes to his own daughters—disappears, and his choices, both past and present, force the family dynamics to change at last. As the three sisters struggle to make sense of it, their mother must emerge from the greenhouse and leave the flowers that have long been the focus of her warmth and nurturing. For Clementine, the next step means retracing the winding route that led her to this very moment: to understand her father’s betrayal, the tragedy of her first lost love, her family’s divisions, and her best friend Eli’s sudden romantic interest. Most of all, she may finall

Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat

Image
Book Description   Chilling Tales from the Porcelain Seat shares true tales of the strange and unexplained horrors and hilarity associated with the porcelain god. The book features commentary by the stars of SyFy's Ghost Hunters, who are certified Roto-Rooter plumbers by day, and paranormal investigators by night. Some stories are funny, others so frightening they just might scare the you know what out of you. Book Review   This was an interesting book of short stories about mishaps dealing with plumbing issues.  There were some stories that were completely hilarious like “A Sticky Surprise”.  While other stories were just plain out disturbing. One of the things I really liked about the book was that there were hints and tips throughout on how to keep your plumbing in tip top shape and what not to do.  So not only was the book amusing, but helpful as well. I just wished that Jay and Grant were featured more in the book.  They put their picture on the front cover, bu

Bethany O’Brien is a 21st-century woman with a career, ambition and bills. She has no recollection of how she once felt about a nearly 4,000-year-old genie named Zubis who suddenly invades her world, but he certainly remembers her. In a previous incarnation, Bethany was an important temple priestess who apprenticed to the djinn. Zubis, powerful and alluring, is infuriatingly bemused by Bethany’s skepticism. Once upon a time, he vowed to love her forever and has no plans of breaking his vow. And although the priestess she once was had been taught that a romance with a djinni must never be, Bethany gradually realizes that her love for Zubis cannot be forgotten. Along with the returning glimmers of her past

Hidden Wheel

Image
Book Description   When an art scene takes root in a pop-up colony called Freedom Springs, micro-visionary Ben Wilfork promotes the giant, autobiographical, 600-square-foot canvases of former chess prodigy and high-end dominatrix Rhonda Barrett using his Hidden Wheel as a bridge to the future before pre-Datastrophe history completes itself. Book Review   This was a fun, easy read that took relatively little time to get involved in.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading this short book. The characters were completely quirky.  The plot was quick witted.  This book took me on a wild ride that was fun. The funky format did take some getting used to.  However, I can see where it totally fit in with the style of the story. Attempting to regrow impaired or elderly tissues, a scientist will one day modify the DNA of human beings by injecting the gene-carrying virus. It is just a matter of time. Before consenting to treatment, you may want to ask a simple question: could there be a situation in which you would want to die but were unable to do so? Journalist Hendrix 'Aitch' Harrison links bodies stolen from a renowned forensic-research lab to an influential drug company. Aided by Sarah Wallace, a determined and beguiling entomologist, he delves into a grisly world of clinical trials and a viral treatment beyond imagining. But Aitch must battle more than his

Book Review   This was a very interesting book.  It showed me how little I truly knew about food and taste.  Barb Stuckey is a professional food developer.  This job requires her to have full use of all her senses, especially taste and smell. In this book, she talks about how all the various senses relate to food and eating.  As well as providing various exercises and tests so you can see how each thing interrelates and how you can develop your taste sensation to the fullest. John Carter

Image
So this past Monday, I got to go watch John Carter in 3D!!!!  It was supposed to be me, my friend Krysta, and our friend Pat.  However, Pat couldn’t make it back into town in time. Anyway, I had to wait until today (launch day for the movie) before I could post this.  I have been dying to post it since I walked out of the theater!!  The movie theater was packed. First off, the movie is based off of the first three books in the Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs.  Yes, that is the same Edgar Rice Burroughs that wrote the Tarzan books.  The first in the series was The Princess of Mars written in 1912.  Now, I am sure you are wondering if a science fiction novel that was written in 1912 could still stand up to the test of time.  YES IT CAN!  WOW! Not only did it stand up to it, it outshone it too!  The actors that they chose to play the various parts were excellent choices.  The guy that played John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) is a gorgeous hunk that knows how to act well. Th
