The Expectant Detectives by Kat Ailes (audiobook)

Image
The Expectant Detectives by Kat Ailes Narrated by Kitty Kelly It has been ages since I have reviewed any books.  I would like to apologize for that.  I had a stroke, and it took away my ability to read regular books.  I was too proud to turn to audiobooks.  I finally did and I have been enjoying them.  I was too afraid to do reviews because I didn't feel that my words would come to me.  Maybe they will, maybe they won't.  However, this is my true feelings about this book.   It has been ages since I was pregnant.  My youngest would have been 24 this year if she would have survived.  So, to say that reading this took me back in time to when I was pregnant is to definitely say something.  The author wrote it in such a way that it brought back those memories for me.  I could remember the weight of the baby on the bladder and how it felt to walk.   The main character of the book is Alice.  She and her partner Joe have just moved to a lovely little village in England named Penton.  D

Supernatural Serial Killers

Image
Description Albert Fish held the genuine belief that the murders he committed were upon instruction from God. Peter Stumpp, who started practicing the "wicked arts from twelve years of age", was convinced he was a werewolf. There are many more murderous individuals like them. Supernatural Serial Killers explores the association between serial killers and the supernatural. The crimes committed by these men and women usually involved sexual deviance, cannibalism and violence toward children. In sixteenth century Europe, the problem became so significant that 'Werewolf Witch Trials' were conducted - many have no idea that it was possible to be tried and convicted for the crime of being a Werewolf, but Lycanthropy was a serious and major social concern in the 1500s. In this book, approximately twenty supernatural serial killers are discussed, including their background, crimes, trials and defenses. Spirituality 1.2 For The Disconnected From The School Of Life

Image
Description Can our spirituality be explained through the use of technology? In his first book, Spirituality 101, Dr. Ivan Figueroa-Otero presents a guide to self-understanding while closing the apparent gap between the religious and scientific vision with an eclectic and original delivery. This version (1.2) is a deliciously funny, tongue-in-cheek update, where every concept, idea, image and advice is carefully defined with technological elements like virtual domains, bits, and RAM. Here, the questions, Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going? the human race has been studying for centuries are explained in a way accessible to anyone with a smartphone or a computer. “Imagine our Universe as a big computer, where the quality of its computation is directly proportional to the quality of the input data. And where every programming error is reversible and re-programmable, with a little bit of patience!”   Review I was not impressed with this book at all.  B

The Tears of Isis

Image
Description NOMINATED FOR THE BRAM STOKER AWARD FOR SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT IN A FICTION COLLECTION What do Medusa and the goddess Isis have in common? Are both creatresses through destruction? And why was Isis oftentimes depicted as weeping? Herewith are some answers as parts of a journey through art and creation, of sculpture and blood-drinking, crafting musical instruments from bone, revisiting legends of Cinderella and the Golden Fleece, of Sleeping Beauty and Dragons and Snow White-some of these, of course, well disguised. For is not art both the recasting of what is, as well as the invention of what is not? The Elizabethan poet Sir Philip Sidney spoke of art as "making things either better than nature bringeth forth, or, quite anew, forms such as never were in nature," so here there be vampires, and ghouls, and insects perhaps from outer space as well as from this Earth, and visions of Saturn and life in the sea, and other wonders "such as never were in natu

Earth Blessings

Image
Description We can see from the floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and pollution disasters that our earth is disturbed. Not to mention the political upheaval that blights the planet. However, the Earth herself has given us tools that assist in stabilizing the situation and which teach us how to turn our thoughts and actions towards positive healing for the planet rather than envisaging her destruction. Crystals offer us creative solutions. Some amazing high-vibration crystals have made themselves known at this time to assist with Earth healing and with personal consciousness-raising. Other Earth healing crystals have been around for millennia but still do a sterling job of restoring the environment and the earth beneath our feet to optimum energetic functioning.   Review As both a spiritual teacher and an energetic healer, I was really intrigued by this book.  I have always been interested in crystals, but felt intimidated by all the information out there.  It

Lost in Translation

Image
Description An artistic collection of more than 50 drawings featuring unique, funny, and poignant foreign words that have no direct translation into English. Did you know that the Japanese language has a word to express the way sunlight filters through the leaves of trees? Or that there's a Finnish word for the distance a reindeer can travel before needing to rest?  Lost in Translation brings to life more than fifty words that don't have direct English translations with charming illustrations of their tender, poignant, and humorous definitions. Often these words provide insight into the cultures they come from, such as the Brazilian Portuguese word for running your fingers through a lover's hair, the Italian word for being moved to tears by a story, or the Swedish word for a third cup of coffee. In this clever and beautifully rendered exploration of the subtleties of communication, you'll find new ways to express yourself while getting lost in the

Upside Down, Countdown & Take Down

Image
Review I have been sitting here for a few days attempting to figure out how to write this review.  Fern Michaels is one of my beloved authors.  I can't get enough of her books.  However, I really feel that these fell short.  The plot was great in Upside Down, but it really ended abruptly.  And that is mainly because this is the first in a series about the guys behind the sisterhood.  This book is only a partial story.  This and the next two books (which will be published shortly after this one) are all part of the same story.  In fact, I didn't even feel like this was done because the story was extremely involved and needed to be broken down into 3 separate novel length books.  Instead, these books felt more like novellas to me.  I am really not quite sure who decided upon breaking them up.  I really wished that they hadn't.  So I would suggest getting this book, but waiting until you can get all three at once.  Otherwise, you will just be frustrated if you can't
