Working It Out

Book Description   In 2006, Abby Rike lost the life she knew and loved when her husband and two young children were killed in a car accident. Devastated and numb, she shut down. For nearly three years she walked through life like a spectre, present in body only. As she descended, so did her health. Fortunately, Abby was not alone. She had loving parents, supportive friends, and a faith that continued to sustain her. Little by little she found the courage to return to life. Joining The Biggest Loser proved a catalyst for the physical and emotional changes she needed to make. In fact, against all odds Abby gained strength, courage, wisdom, and continued her steadfast relationship with God. Instead of anger, she found herself slowly but steadily healing. She lost a hundred pounds but gained hope. In this riveting book, Abby tells her story--from her joyous life before the accident to the unbearable pain that followed it and her eventual emergence as a woman reinvigorated by her

Book Description   Justine Nolan is a documentary film maker who lost her beloved grandmother a decade ago—the person who was the only source of love and comfort in her life.  Her own mother Deborah had always been distant and uninvolved, following her own agenda in pursuit of her career as an interior designer.  But when Justine inadvertently opens a letter addressed to her mother, she discovers that not only is her grandmother Gabri alive, but that Deborah has deliberately estranged the family from her for all these years.  Justine’s search for her grandmother takes her to Istanbul where she begins to uncover the family’s secrets that stretch all the way back to World War II.  As the layers of deception peel away, Justine begins to understand a woman she never really knew…and she begins to ask questions about the true desires of her own heart. Book Review   Even though this author has been around for awhile, I have to admit that this was my first book by her.  I r

"People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy." - Anton Chekhov When I worked at a coffee shop, I always tried to change up what I'd ask customers on different days. When I ran out of interesting things to say, I'd simply ask them how they were. I was very surprised by how consistent some of their answers were. Frequently, they would say, "Well, it's nice out," if the sun was shining or, "Well, it's raining," if the dark clouds were rolling in. These people were basing their moods on the weather. The saddest part about this for me was that as a result, their happiness was completely

Arnicare–Review & Giveaway

Image
Product Review   Because of various health issues, I am always on the lookout for over the counter pain relief.  I HATE take pills.  So I tend to look for something topical.  I don’t want to be like my mom and smell horribly of some of the other formulas that are on the market. So that limits me greatly on what I can use.  I was just recently sent a 2.6 ounce tube of Arnicare.  It is all natural pain relief that comes in a gel.  They also have creams and pills as well. First off, I liked that it has a very pleasant mild scent.  So its definitely something that I am not embarrassed putting on and going out somewhere. Plus, it helped stop the pain rather quickly.  I was completely blown away with how fast my legs stopped hurting.  It’s a very rare day that I go without pain.  It was so nice to be able to find something that actually takes the pain away.  And not only did it take the pain away, it also relieved some of the swelling that I get in my legs.  I also loved th

Hepen The Watcher

Book Description   The demon Dismay’s murderous nature has earned him the ire of his beloved wife, who has sent him away in a fit of temper. In his exile he ventures south into the land of Lutawa, drawn there by the prayers of abused and desperate women who beg him to grant them vengeance against the men who cruelly rule their lives—and Dismay is pleased to do it. Still, murder is hard and dirty work. When an avid desire for a bath brings him to a fine Lutawan estate, he meets two beautiful young women. Ui and Eleanor are well-acquainted with the whispered tales of the demon Dismay, who slays men but never women, and they’re delighted to entertain their fearsome guest, but they warn him to beware. Lutawa is ruled by an immortal king, who punishes treason with the terrible weapon of infernal fire. Believing this king to be the same cruel deity known in the north as Hepen the Watcher, Dismay resolves to kill him—and accidentally draws Ui and Eleanor into his schemes. Those

At Tildy’s Thrift

Image
Book Description   Although the shop is said to be haunted, Tildy's is still patronized by customers of every stripe imaginable. Strange things do happen, even with the presence of the gospel trio who work in the back to check in donations. Someone or something is bent on taking down Tildy's bitterness over childhood bullying due to a physical deformity and racism. Is there a Nephilim about? The little, economically-depressed, Southern town of Hortonville has a lot to deal with, and they must find a way to overcome. Book Review   This was definitely a short quick read.  When I say short, I mean really short.  It was only 100 pages long.  The story did drag in a few places, but otherwise I really liked it.  The characters were fun.  I think Miss Maxie was my favorite.  I could just picture her house decorated from stem to stern with nothing but Christmas items all year long.  I do feel that the author could have built up a little more suspense as to what was goin
