Book Tour–The Ice Princess

Book Description

The American debut of internationally bestselling Swedish writer Camilla Lackberg’s haunting first novel. Returning to her hometown of Fjallbacka after the funeral of her parents, writer Erica Falck finds a community on the brink of tragedy. The death of her childhood friend, Alex, is just the beginning. Her wrists slashed, her body frozen in an ice-cold bath, it seems that she has taken her own life.

Erica conceives a book about the beautiful but remote Alex, one that will answer questions about their own shared past. While her interest grows into an obsession, local detective Patrik Hedstrom is following his own suspicions about the case. But it is only when they start working together that the truth begins to emerge about a small town with a deeply disturbing past.

Book Review

If you follow along with many of my reviews, you will notice that I rarely mention the covers of the books.  I absolutely loved this one.  Not only was it beautiful, but it was textured as well.  I just felt that I had to comment on that.  The cover I have is the one that looks like the picture at the top.  Not the one at the bottom of the post in the Amazon box.

Camilla Lackberg has been a published author in Europe for quite awhile now.  This is her first debut in America.  When I read the premise of the story, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the book.  I certainly wasn’t let down.

All of the characters were drawn out so that you could picture them in your minds.  There wasn’t anyone in there who was extremely vague or flat.  I also didn’t find a heavy use of clichés or stereotypes.

The story is set in a real life small town called Fjallbacka.  Being the inquisitive person that I am, I had to Google it.  It is a really quaint little town that Ingrid Bergman had stayed at for a short period of time.  I even found a website that has a weather webcam that shows random shots of Fjallbacka.

One thing I liked was that the author didn’t slap you in the face with the answers as you were reading.  Layer upon layer of anticipation was built up.  I know that I had trouble putting the book down because I just had to know the answer to the next puzzle.  What were they going to find out next?

This is definitely one of those books you don’t want to start at night.  Otherwise, you might not get that much sleep because you are going to keep reading for just a few more pages.  Then it becomes just a few more.  I just couldn’t put it down.

I also found a wonderful video interview with the author on YouTube.

I look forward to reading more of her books as they become translated.
