G is for Genealogy

One of my passions is genealogy.  I absolutely love working on the family tree.  I have met some very interesting people while working on my tree. I found some cousins on my mom’s side that I never knew before.  Some are in Canada (where my mom is from) and some are in Great Britain (where my grandparents are from). We have had some mysteries in our family tree.  One of which is nearly solved.  I had already written about Louisa Needs and her loves to rival Erica Kane back on Nov 19 , Nov 30 , and Dec 6 .  I have found out a few more things since then.  First off, there were rumors that Louisa had kicked her daughter Mary Elizabeth out because she was unwed and pregnant.  The story goes that Liz had moved to Windsor after being kicked out.  Her brother Alex returned from WW2 upset to find out that she was kicked out.  He then moves to Windsor to help her out.  So she names her son after him. This is so false that it is unbelievable.  First off, we now have a copy of Liz’s marri

F is for Fran

Growing up, our next door neighbor was Ms. Frances L.  I always called her Ms. Frances.  She was my mom’s best friend. My mom told me of a time where I was going to run away.  I packed my bag and I was heading out the door.  Of course, I wasn’t going to go far.  I was just heading next door to Ms. Frances house.  My dad used to love playing pranks on her.  I remember one time when she was having a pool built in her back yard.  She was over hanging out by our pool with me and my mom.  The pool builders told her that her phone was ringing in the house.  She said to not worry about it because whoever it is can just call back later (this was way before answering machines).  The phone just kept ringing and ringing.  The guys kept telling her that the phone wasn’t stopping.  That is must be important for that person to just sit there and let it continuously ring.  So she climbed the fence to get to her house.  It was much quicker then going through our house to get around to her house.

E is for Edgar

Image
Image via Wikipedia Edgar Allan Poe has always been my favorite author.  I absolutely love everything he has written. I remember one year, my friend Beth and I went to Barnes & Nobles because they were having a reading of his works to celebrate his death.  Not only did they read some of his works, but they also told about his life.  And since the anniversary of his death is the day before my birthday, we made it an extra special outing. At the end of the reading, they had a leather bound gild edged book of his works that they were giving away.  Everyone had to write their name on a slip of paper and put it in a box.  Then they randomly pulled a name out.  I was ecstatic when they called out my name.  That to me made it the most special birthday ever. I still have that book and it will always hold a place in my heart. It has everything he ever wrote.  All of his poems, short stories, novels, reviews, and newspaper articles. And just a little trivia for you.  John Cu

D is for Dating

I have been thinking a lot about this lately.  I have been divorced now for almost 15 years now.  I had dated quite a bit after my divorce.  However, in the last 6 or 7 years, I completely stopped dating. The reason that this has been on my mind is because I am nearing the scary age of 40 (this October).  I am way overweight and need to really lost a lot of weight.  I am more then 100 pounds overweight.  Plus with my health issues, it just doesn’t make it easy. I miss having someone to go out with.  I miss waiting for them to call.  I miss getting excited as they are on their way to pick me up.  I just miss the thrill of dating.  I also miss just knowing that someone is there.  I am just afraid that if I wait too long that I will end up alone for the rest of my life.

C is for Crime Dramas

Image
Image via Wikipedia One of my favorite types of TV shows is the crime drama.  I get so involved in watching the mysteries unfold. Of course, my all time favorite is NCIS, with Abby being my favorite character.  I try my best not to miss an episode.  The interaction between Gibbs and his team is incredible.  I have to admit that I like Ziva more then I liked Kate.  I so want a Burt The Hippo.  He is so awesome!!  And why can’t we get a decent cup of Caf-Pow? Another great crime drama is Criminal Minds.  I don’t always get a chance to watch this one when it is on.  So I have the DVR set to record it.   Shemar Moore (the guy who plays Morgan) is HOT!  I loved watching him on Birds of Prey.  What are your favorite shows?

B is for Books

Books have always been a major part of my life.  My mom used to sit and read to me when I was little.  Then as I got older, she made sure that there were always books in the house that would peak my interest.  Some of my favorite books as a kid were Ferdinand The Bull , An Invitation to The Butterfly Ball , The Ice Cream Cone Coot , and the Read About Me series.  There is one book in particular that my sister and I can’t remember the name of.  I am not even sure how we got on the subject of it.  Back in the 80s, we read a sci-fi/fantasy book that was set at the universe’s largest mall.  The main character was a guy who was on his way to buy squash shoes.  He had to explain to several people that they weren’t shoes to play squash in, but shoes that were made of squash.  There were many hilarious things that happened to him in the story.  Unfortunately, we can’t remember the name of the book, the name of the author, or the name of the main character.  So we are at a loss as to bein

A is for Autoimmune

I am taking part in the A to Z blogging challenge.  This is an interesting challenge in which we blog each day of the month (except Sunday) with a different letter of the alphabet.  So stay tuned to see what I come up with for the rest of the alphabet. Today’s post is brought to you by the letter A.  Autoimmune diseases are something that I know way too much about.  There are many different types.  The first thing to know about autoimmune diseases is that they are genetic.  They are usually passed down through the female line.  Even though a parent has one specific autoimmune disease, it does not necessarily mean that the child will get that same one.  A perfect example would be me and my mom.  My mom was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 16.  Her disease is extremely debilitating.  She was in a lot of pain from the onset. Whereas, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and eventually Hashimoto’s Encephalopathy much later in life.  I had signs of Hashimoto
