The Scary Places Map Book

Image
Book Description   Take a tour of seven spooky places, among them the Wicked Woods, a Ghostly Galleon, and the Western Terror-tories. Along the way, avoid booby traps, search for hidden objects, and learn basic map reading skills! A map key, items to look for, and points of interest, such as Dracula’s Castle and Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory, are included for each eerie region. Tips for touring (never take the Transylvania tour during a full moon) add to the fun. Kids who love to mix the ghoulish with the humorous will pore over the atmospheric pictures time and again, transported to strange, mysterious, very scary places. Book Review   This was a fun find!  The kids truly enjoyed this book.  To be honest, so did I! There are seven different places that you “tour”.  Each place has a picture of the place and a description.  It even has a list of dangers to avoid while touring that location.  It’s almost like it’s a travel guide for fictional creepy locations. Then there

Maisy at the Beach

Image
Book Description   Maisy and company have a full day of fun in Maisy at the Beach, collecting shells, building a sandcastle, and feasting on tasty snacks. Young readers join in the fun as they complete the scenes with more than 25 full-color, reusable stickers. Book Review   Truly an adorable book that kept the kids engrossed.  It is a great early reader book that is interactive.  As the story progresses it asks the child to put stickers in certain parts to complete the pictures.  What’s great is that the pages allow for the stickers to be put on and taken off repeatedly.  I am sure that eventually the adhesive on the back will start to wear off after while.  Maisy at the Beach: A Sticker Book (9780763659080): Lucy Cousins: Books ISBN : 0763659088 ISBN-13 : 9780763659080

Good People Everywhere

Image
Book Description   A colorful picture book that will warm the hearts of children and adults alike, each of its pages contain endearing examples and vibrant illustrations to inspire children to grow into grateful, caring, and giving people. It provides a wonderful way to calm children before sleep, ease their fears, and help them develop an appreciation for good work. Also included are activity pages to help children practice skills for creating gratitude, compassion, and beauty in daily life.   Book Review   This book teaches kids to stop and appreciate those people around them.  Whether it’s the people who pick the fruits and vegetables they eat or the teachers who give them the knowledge in school, there are people in the kids’ lives that help to enrich them. The book is fairly easy to read.  The pictures are bright and cheery.  I even love that at the end of the book it asks the kid to look at what he does that is good.  It also asks the kid to draw their own award t

Chasing Faeries

Image

Lying in her bed she would listen for hours to her grandmother's wonderful tales of faeries that lived in an enchanting land somewhere through the nearby wishing well. Now in her tenth year, Calla Rose begins to realize that maybe there is more to the stories than she thought. When unexpected visitors pop up in her grandmother's garden, a choice must be made that could change her life forever. Book Review   This was such a delightful story.  The characters were all sweet and the story was purely divine.  Even though it is geared toward a much more younger read, anyone would be caught up in the tale of ten year old Calla Rose and her search for the faeries.  The descriptions used in this book make you feel like you can truly see the faeries alongside of Calla Rose.  You can also feel her exaspe

Night Buddies and the Pineapple Cheesecake Scare

Image
Book Description   When pineapple cheesecakes start disappearing from the world’s only Pineapple Cheesecake Factory across town, Crosley, a zany red crocodile, enlists the help of young John Degraffenreidt to straighten things out.  In this adventure-fantasy, the unlikely pair sneaks out of John’s house by becoming invisible, thanks to the I –ain’t-here doodad Crosley uses from the bunch of whatchamacallits hanging on his belt. John and Crosley get on the subway and ride the Night Folks Limited all the way to the factory where they meet the giant manager, Big Foot Mae.  There is danger ahead, but the Night Buddies must stay with their “Program” if the world’s supply of pineapple cheesecakes counts for anything.  And it surely does, especially to Crosley who is totally goofy about them and never seems to get his fill. Book Review   This was a completely cute book to read.  The kids enjoyed every minute of it.  They were laughing hysterically throughout. Sands Hetheringto
