Knowing Your Value

Book DescriptionIt’s no secret that women have long been overlooked and under-compensated, and while great strides have been made in recent decades, the value placed on women versus their male counterparts is still consistently unbalanced. In Knowing Your Value, bestselling author Mika Brzezinski takes an in-depth look at how women today achieve their deserved recognition and financial worth. Prompted by her own experience as co-host of Morning Joe, Mika interviews a number of prominent women across a wide range of industries on their experience moving up in their fields. Mika reveals how these women, including such impresarios as White House star Valerie Jarrett, comedian Susie Essman, writer and director Nora Ephron, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg, and broadcaster Joy Behar, navigated the inevitable roadblocks that are unique to women. Mika also uncovers what men think about the approach women take in the workplace, getting honest answers from Donnie Deutsch, Jack Welch, Donald Trump, a…

A Novel Seduction

Book DescriptionWhen snobbish book critic Ellery Sharpe screws up at Vanity Place magazine, her boss assigns her the ultimate punishment: write an ode to romance novels, a genre she considers the literary equivalent of word search puzzles. To make matters worse, he hires her sexy former party boy ex, Axel Mackenzie, to shoot the photos. Axel really wants the project to succeed. For one, the magazine will double his fee if he convinces strong-willed Ellery to write a story no woman can resist. Besides, getting Ellery to fall for romance novels might be just the push she needs to believe people can change . . . even him. At his sister’s advice, Axel gives Ellery a copy of Kiltlander, a much-adored romance whose warrior hero is utterly irresistible. To her dismay, Ellery finds herself secretly falling in love with the story—and with Axel, who’s drawing his own lessons from the book’s compelling hero. With her carefully crafted image of herself crumbling and her dream job on the line, wil…

Update on Little Ben

Thank you everyone for all the prayers that you have been sending Ben’s way.He had the surgery.  However, he is still having seizures and they are now showing up in a different part of his brain.  The doctors are unsure how or why this is happening.  So they are keeping him still in a coma. They said that until he is able to stop seizing they need to do this for his own health.  It’s not like small little seizures every now and then.  They are huge long ones that are uncontrollable.  The other day he had a seizure for over 3 hours long.  They aren’t even sure at this point how he is going to be when they do wake him up.  They aren’t sure what kind of damage this has done to his brain.  There is a chance that he will have to learn to talk and walk again.  It’s just so disheartening to think that even though modern medicine is so advanced, there are things that they just have no clue about. So as it stands, we are just in a holding pattern with him.  This coming Friday is his 7th birthday…

Perfectly Crazy

Book DescriptionSexy, stylish and successful, Nell always prided herself on her common sense. So why is she suddenly crazy for David, her married best friend of twenty years?
With a single kiss, Nell s perfect Californian life turns upside down. All the safety of her well-adjusted marriage to a respected plastic surgeon and her growing fashion business pale in comparison to the passion experienced in that kiss. Can she go on as before, or will she make the biggest change of her life? Will she face disaster and tragedy, or perhaps adventure and a second chance? Or possibly all of the above?
Find out from this fast paced book where the sceneries are changing as fast as the movies. Life is full of surprises and challenges that anyone would call perfectly crazy yet they may become reality one day. Or will they?Book ReviewUnfortunately, this book was difficult for me to really get into.  I think one of the main reasons that I had problems with it was that main “hero” of the story, Davi…

Bears With Us

Book DescriptionTempe Crabtree is the resident deputy of Bear Creek, a small mountain community in the southern Sierra. Her continuing interest in the spiritual side of her heritage often causes unrest in her marriage to her minister husband. In Bears With Us, Tempe has her hands full when bears turn up in and around her town, becoming a threat to kids and adults when an elderly woman is horrifically killed. But are bears really responsible, or is there something else afoot?Book ReviewThis is the first book that I have read in this series, even though it is number 11.  I can definitely say that I am going to look for the others in the series.Marilyn Meredith has written characters that are likable and strong.  You actually feel like you are there in Bear Creek right along with them.  I also loved that she had all these great subplots weaving in and out of the book.  There were plenty of twists and turns to keep my interest. My favorite character is Tempe.  I love that she is trying to …
