A Novel Seduction

Image
Book Description   When snobbish book critic Ellery Sharpe screws up at Vanity Place magazine, her boss assigns her the ultimate punishment: write an ode to romance novels, a genre she considers the literary equivalent of word search puzzles. To make matters worse, he hires her sexy former party boy ex, Axel Mackenzie, to shoot the photos. Axel really wants the project to succeed. For one, the magazine will double his fee if he convinces strong-willed Ellery to write a story no woman can resist. Besides, getting Ellery to fall for romance novels might be just the push she needs to believe people can change . . . even him. At his sister’s advice, Axel gives Ellery a copy of Kiltlander, a much-adored romance whose warrior hero is utterly irresistible. To her dismay, Ellery finds herself secretly falling in love with the story—and with Axel, who’s drawing his own lessons from the book’s compelling hero. With her carefully crafted image of herself crumbling and her dream job on the l

Early Review–Plastic

Image
Book Description   Plastic built the modern world. Where would we be without bike helmets, baggies, toothbrushes, and pacemakers? But a century into our love affair with plastic, we’re starting to realize it’s not such a healthy relationship. Plastics draw on dwindling fossil fuels, leach harmful chemicals, litter landscapes, and destroy marine life. As journalist Susan Freinkel points out in this engaging and eye-opening book, we’re nearing a crisis point. We’ve produced as much plastic in the past decade as we did in the entire twentieth century. We’re drowning in the stuff, and we need to start making some hard choices. Freinkel gives us the tools we need with a blend of lively anecdotes and analysis. She combs through scientific studies and economic data, reporting from China and across the United States to assess the real impact of plastic on our lives. She tells her story through eight familiar plastic objects: comb, chair, Frisbee, IV bag, disposable lighter, grocery bag

Review–Yanni–Truth of Touch

Image
Product Review   I recently received a digital copy of Yanni’s newest CD from One2One Network. This is Yanni’s first album in several years.  I had always liked listening to Yanni.  His music is very relaxing.   Truth of Touch was no different. The album is labeled as an instrumental album.  However, there are two songs on it that actually have lyrics.  On those two songs, the instruments play the key role.  My favorite song is Guilty Pleasure.   It seems almost to have a mellow jazz beat to it.  The Track List Includes: Truth Of Touch Echo Of A Dream Seasons Voyage Flash Of Color Vertigo Nine Can’t Wait Guilty Pleasure O Luce Che Brilla Nell’Oscurita I’m So Long Way Home Yanni & Arturo Mist Of A Kiss Secret   Yanni recently started a 40 date US tour.  He will be travelling through most major cities in the US.  Check here for Yanni Tour Dates nearest you. Early Review–Breath of Angel

Image
Book Description   The stranger’s cloak had fallen back, and with it, a long, white, blood-stained wing. When Melaia, a young priestess, witnesses the gruesome murder of a stranger in the temple courtyard, age-old legends recited in song suddenly come to life. She discovers wings on the stranger, and the murderer takes the shape of both a hawk and a man. Angels. Shape-shifters. Myths and stories—until now. Melaia finds herself in the middle of a blood feud between two immortal brothers who destroyed the stairway to heaven, stranding angels in the earthly realm. When the feud turns violent and Melaia becomes a target, she finds refuge with a band of angels attempting to restore the stairway. But the restoration is impossible without the repayment of an ancient debt—the “breath of angel, blood of man,” a payment that involves Melaia’s heart, soul, and destiny. Book Review   This book is the first in the Angeleon Circle.  This was an incredible book.  It was an

Review–Goodbye Hollywood Nobody

Image
Book Description   Charley’s off to Scotland with her new beau, and Scotty and her dad travel to Maine in search of Scotty’s mom. When they land on her mother’s last known trail, will their questions finally be answered? Book Review   This is the fourth book in the series.  You can find my reviews on the other three books here: Hollywood Nobody   Finding Hollywood Nobody Romancing Hollywood Nobody I was sad to see this series ending.  It was a really great series.  I had quite a few shocks in this book.   Some things definitely didn’t turn out as I had expected them to. One thing that was interesting was seeing this other side of The Karissa.  This was the first time that we did not really see her as her better then everyone actress persona.  It was nice.  Once again, Scotty gets into some really interesting situations and it is only through her faith in God that she is able to manage to figure things out. If you have not read any of the books in this series,

Review–The Final Summit

Image
Book Description   David Ponder is back. This time the fate of mankind is in his hands. This is mankind’s last chance. Centuries of greed, pride, and hate have sent humanity hurtling toward disaster, and far from its original purpose. There is only one solution that can reset the compass and right the ship, and it consists of only two words. With time running out, it is up to David Ponder and a cast of history’s best and brightest minds to uncover this solution before it is too late. The catch? They are allowed only five tries to discover the answer. Readers first encountered David Ponder in The Traveler's Gift . Now, in The Final Summit, Andrews combines a riveting narrative with astounding history in order to show us the one thing we must do when we don’t know what to do. Book Review   I had not read the previous book in the series.  There were some references to the first book that I didn’t get, but they didn’t hamper my enjoyment of this book in any way.  In

Review & Giveaway – Pitstop

Image
Product Description   Pitstop is the first ever stain remover to effectively eliminate underarm stains as well as ring around the collar.  This product is best used by pre treating the entire stain, rubbing together (or using a small brush) and letting it sit for 15-20 minutes before laundering.   If you have treated your armpit stains with bleach the stain is permanent and unsalvageable. Throw out the garment and test PITSTOP on stains that have not been treated with bleach. Product Review   If your family is anything like mine, you have probably thrown out or torn up to use as rags a ton of shirts because of armpit stain due to excessive sweating.  Well I have found out that this product helps to end your days of buying more and more shirts just for them to be ruined. PitStop works really simply.  Just put a little bit on the area that needs to be treated.  Let it sit for a bit and then throw it in the washing machine. My family doesn’t separate their own laundry.

Review & Giveaway–Gorton’s

Image
I recently received 2 coupons from Gorton’s to allow me to get any of their frozen foods.  I bought the beer battered fish tenders and the crispy beer battered shrimp. First off, my brother-in-law will normally eat just about anything you put in front of him.  In fact, we refer to him as the human garbage disposal.  However, the one thing he refuses to eat are fish sticks or tenders.  He remembers back in the day the ones that they served at school.  Now this is going quite a ways back in time so cafeteria food was pretty bad back then. So when my brother-in-law heard what I was cooking, he was stomping around, pouting like a little kid instead of acting like a 45 year old man.  He was upset that I was going to cook food that he hates.  Well, since he was acting like I kid, I decided to treat him like a kid.  I told him that he had to eat all his food or he couldn’t get dessert. As soon as he took his first bite, he couldn’t shovel it in fast enough.  He realized that he actually

Book Review   This was a great book that had me on the edge of my seat.  Many times I was in complete shock as to what was happening.  It is not often that a book will be able to surprise me many times throughout.

She escapes, but instead of finding shelter with her principled, patriotic uncle, she brings disaster to his door.  Betrayed by one of her own accusers, Maggie must try to save her uncle and his family from the king’s men, even if she has to risk her own life in the process. Originally published in the UK, this book has a powerful blend of heart-stopping action and thought-provoking themes. Book Review   First let me say that I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this cover.  It is so beautiful. This book had actually been previously released in the UK under another name.  It is going to be making its US debut in just a short while. Elizabeth Laird allows the reader to step back in time to 17th century Scotland.  It was a time of struggle and strife.  Young Maggie Blair was falsely accuse
