Review - Practical Mischief

Disclaimer:  I received this book free from D.D. Scott in exchange for an honest review.  I did not receive any form of compensation.

I really wanted to love this book.  Being into all things magickal, I really thought that this book would be right up my alley.  However, I found it severely lacking.

I know that this is the first book in a series, but it felt like I had jumped into the middle of it.  The events did not unfold smoothly and she kept referring back to previous events that I felt were never really explained.  So even though this is a new series, I have a suspicion that it is an offshoot of another series.  That can be the only explanation for it.

Have you ever started watching a popular TV show part way through the season and had to have someone explain who was who to you and what was going on?  Well, that is exactly how I felt.  Lost and confused.

The story itself was quaint.  The "three stooges" brothers were written way too over the top.  They almost seemed like they were mentally challenged and that Angelica was taking advantage of it.  But I can't say for sure if that is the case since I really have no clue as to their entire characters.

Another major hurdle that this book threw at the reader was that the point of view was constantly changing.  In a normal length novel, that can help readers get a better feeling for the  characters and plot.  However, in a short novella, it is just a hindrance to the story.

Overall, even though I did finish reading the book, I wasn't left with a satisfied feeling.  I guess you could say it was like having a craving for good Godiva chocolate and being given a piece of licorice instead.
