Review - Ripped

When I first saw this book on NetGalley for review, I jumped at the chance.  I have always been in love with everything Jack the Ripper.  My grandmother grew up not far from where the Ripper murders took place.  Even though she was born after the murders took place, it was still so much a part of that area of London.

First, I can say that yes, Cockney slang is used.  But it is never over-utilized as it was in this book.  It just got to be too ridiculous.

I can understand taking literary license when writing historical fiction.  That is a must.  However, this author doesn't seem to know much about the Jack the Ripper murders.  There really didn't appear to be too much correlation between what actually happened and how they appeared in the story.  Good historical fiction always takes the facts and adds a flair to them.  This story was the opposite.  It took some lackluster flair and added a small dash of facts to it.

Unfortunately, most of the people who would want to read this book are those who are intrigued by the Jack the Ripper mystique.  This book left me with a bad taste in my mouth.  It was extremely difficult to finish.
