But somewhere between stealing his cash and alienating Sam, Ginger manages to wind herself into Edward's heart. Can the three of them create a family? Or will Ginger blow them all apart? Book Review   This is one of those books that really changes how you view life.  Poor little Ginger lived through absolute hell.  And of course, she doesn’t know how to cope with what she has been through.  So she did the typical kid thing and acted out.  Of course, th

A Leprechaun’s Lament

Book Description   A stipulation of the Patriot Act gave Chief Sam Jenkins an easy job; investigate all the civilians working for the Prospect Police Department. But what looked like a routine chore to the gritty ex-New York detective, turned into a nightmare. Preliminary inquiries reveal a middle-aged employee didn’t exist prior to 1975. Murray McGuire spent the second half of his life repairing office equipment for the small city of Prospect, Tennessee, but the police can’t find a trace of the first half. After uncovering nothing but dead ends during the background investigation and frustrations running at flood level, Jenkins finds his subject lying face down in a Smoky Mountain creek bed—murdered assassination-style. By calling in favors from old friends and new acquaintances, the chief enlists help from a local FBI agent, a deputy director of the CIA, British intelligence services, and the Irish Garda to learn the man’s real identity and uncover the trail of an interna

Good People Everywhere

Book Description   A colorful picture book that will warm the hearts of children and adults alike, each of its pages contain endearing examples and vibrant illustrations to inspire children to grow into grateful, caring, and giving people. It provides a wonderful way to calm children before sleep, ease their fears, and help them develop an appreciation for good work. Also included are activity pages to help children practice skills for creating gratitude, compassion, and beauty in daily life.   Book Review   This book teaches kids to stop and appreciate those people around them.  Whether it’s the people who pick the fruits and vegetables they eat or the teachers who give them the knowledge in school, there are people in the kids’ lives that help to enrich them. The book is fairly easy to read.  The pictures are bright and cheery.  I even love that at the end of the book it asks the kid to look at what he does that is good.  It also asks the kid to draw their own award t

Journey to Virginland

Image
Book Description   Brimming with black humor and piercing satire, at turns picaresque and epistolary, "Journey to Virginland" explores the breakneck paradigm shifts of the 21st century, navigating through the morass with the guidance of Dog, the novel's loutish yet wise antihero. Through a devilishly iconoclastic story line, Dog parses the key cultural and religious failures that have made for a world held hostage by hyper-capitalism, consumerism, and post-9/11 realpolitik on the one hand, and an ominous resurgence of nationalism and religious extremism on the other. Yet far from basking in a prospect of doom, Dog embarks on an impassioned quest for identity and meaning, ultimately proposing an exuberant, decidedly life-affirming vision of human transformation. With its vibrant style, kaleidoscopic yet highly calibrated thematic diversity, and, ultimately, unfettered sense of humanity, "Journey to Virginland" establishes itself as a groundbreaking li

Aaron & Keja: Time Dragon

But in order for him to do this, he must send the dragon to another world where there are no laws written against killing a Time Dragon. The world he happens by chance to send the dragon to is Aaron Gillian's world. Book Review   This should have been a quick read considering the length of it.  However, one of the things that kept tripping me up was the lack of finesse when it comes to writing.  The author’s ideas were great.  She knew where her plot was going and how she wanted to get there.  However, I don’t feel that she has the knowledge yet to be able to get her from point A to point B and take the reader along with her. I am sure if she has the opportunity to work with someone skilled in writing, they could help to guide her along the path to help culminate her ideas
