Review - ANUBIS SPEAKS!

Disclaimer:  I received this book free from Boyd's Mill Press in exchange for an honest review.  I did not receive any form of compensation. Being a Unitarian Universalist, I am always looking for more information on various spiritualities.  This book was definitely no different. I have always been fascinated with Ancient Egyptian religion and culture.  This book takes a very amusing look at it from the point of view of Anubis.  It is written in such a humorous way that middle grade readers won't even realize how much they are actually learning from it! I loved the way that Anubis describes how Ra created the world by "hocking a giant loogie".  When you think about the actual story of the world's creation, that is essentially what happened.  They just don't normally describe it in that way.  However, this was an amusing twist to it that will certainly have any middle grade reader laughing hysterically and saying "eeewwww gross!" The book even goes in

Disclaimer: I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any form of compensation. This was the first in the series that I have read.  There are 3 more books before this.  After reading this book, I really plan on reading the first 3 as soon as possible.  I have been enamored with Norwegian culture for most of my life.  When I was a child, we had an exchange student (Trudy) stay with us from Norway.  Of course, we did all the touristy things with her.  But it was just spending time with her and learning about her and where she came from that really impressed me. So when I found that this book was based on Norwegian Americans and trying to hold up to the old ways of their mother country, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.  I was in for a treat.  I loved reading all of the traditions that would take place. The main character is somewhat of an empath (not sure if that would be the right word) because she can sense things about objec

Review - A Wilder Rose

Disclaimer:  I received this book free from Persevero Press in exchange for an honest review.  I did not receive any form of compensation. I have to admit that I was never one to really like the Little House on the Prairie TV show.  However, I saw Susan Wittig Albert's name on the cover and just had to get this book.  I love her China Bayle series.  I sort of didn't look and see the small print under the title saying this was about Laura Ingalls Wilder and Little House on the Prairie. That being said, I actually enjoyed this book immensely.  I love being able to take a look at real historical people through a fictional lens.  There is no way to know exactly what was said or happened, hence this book being labelled as fiction.  However, Susan did extensive research including reading through the diaries of Laura Ingalls Wilder and her daughter Rose Wilder Lane.  It was through events that unfurled in the diary that Susan was able to flesh out a story of what happened back then. I

Review - CANCER'S CAUSE, CANCER'S CURE

Disclaimer:  I received this book free from Hugo House Publishers, Ltd. in exchange for an honest review.  I did not receive any form of compensation. As someone who was recently diagnosed, I am looking for any and all ways in which to help myself.  I want to be prepared and to know what I am getting myself into.  Plus, I want to have some measure of control over what happens to me and my body. This book explains the science behind how cancer spreads.  It then takes a closer look at all the alternative methods that can be used to help heal the body of cancer.  There is an in-depth chapter on what foods are beneficial and which ones should be avoided. The part that really impressed me was there were protocols printed for each variety of cancer.  This way you know exactly which herbals to take, the amount to take, and how often.  Most books just go through and give vague suggestions.  This one actually listed the type of cancer and the exact protocol underneath it.  At the moment, I am a

Disclaimer: I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any form of compensation. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  It is the first in a series. I absolutely loved all the characters.  I would have loved to hang out with Eveline.  Can you imagine being raised in a circus?  That is just wild.  But then after living on the road for all that time finding out that you have a noble side to your family.  It would be difficult to bring the two aspects of yourself together to actually fit.  How do you bring yourself to live as a respectable lady of society when you have been around the circus all your life?  Eveline struggles with this as I know that I would have. Not only is she having to learn to reconcile the two vastly different aspects of her life, but now someone has been murdered and it is up to Eveline to figure out who is the killer. This was a wonderfully written piece of steam punk.  I can’t wait for the next book to come out.  Bu

This is definitely an interesting book.  However, it was a little confusing when the author was attempting to explain how to translate your birth name into the Hebrew spelling.  In fact, if you log into the author's website, he gives a little clearer explanation as apparently other people have asked about this. Once you get past that initial confusion, there is a ton of information that you are able to unravel from the numerology behind your name.  Thankfully, you can have your numbers given to you for free from the website.  However, you do need to jump through a few hoops in order to do so.  First you have to sign up for one area of the website in order to just get to the link that gives you the download.  Then in order to download, you need to sign up again as this is a different area of the website.  However, it is worth it if you

Review–A Fatal Likeness

Disclaimer: I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive any form of compensation. Being a great lover of Romantic Period literature, I was drawn to this book.  I love reading their stories and reading stories about them.  I have even watched the movie Gothic which is about the night that Mary Shelley came up with the idea for Frankenstein. However, I just could not really get into this book.  The prose was extremely dry and tedious to read.   There was too much flitting back and forth with perspective and time.  It was actually hard to keep track at times.  I don’t feel that Maddox was well fleshed out in this book.  Then again, this was the second book that she utilized that character.  So she may have felt that since he was fleshed out in the first one, she needn’t have done it again.  However, an author should never assume that a reader will start with book one. This book had shown so much promise.  I just feel in my opinion that
