Empire of Light

Book Description   Jason Tisse is in over his head. As a young black cinematography student at LA's notoriously tough American Film Institute, he's got the vision, but not the balls to battle the ruthlessness that is Hollywood. After a failed year at AFI, which includes nearly electrocuting a fellow classmate, Jason embarks on a trip to Europe to hunt down the works of his favorite painter. Armed with an enchanted camera gifted to him by an eccentric film professor, Jason is prepared to master the art of light and shadow as depicted in the infamous baroque artwork of the original Emperor of Light known to the rest of the world as Caravaggio. What Jason doesn't expect, however, is that the innocent-looking Kodak Brownie camera he's been given holds remarkable powers, capable of miraculously bringing his idol's artwork alive with each snapshot. Caravaggio's work, packed full of sex, religion, violence and some outrageous hilarity, explodes to life and send

A Novel Seduction

Image
Book Description   When snobbish book critic Ellery Sharpe screws up at Vanity Place magazine, her boss assigns her the ultimate punishment: write an ode to romance novels, a genre she considers the literary equivalent of word search puzzles. For one, the magazine will double his fee if he convinces strong-willed Ellery to write a story no woman can resist. Besides, getting Ellery to fall for romance novels might be just the push she needs to believe people can change . . . even him. At his sister’s advice, Axel gives Ellery a copy of Kiltlander, a much-adored romance whose warrior hero is utterly irresistible. To her dismay, Ellery finds herself secretly falling in love with the story—and with Axel, who’s drawing his own lessons from the book’s compelling hero. With her carefully crafted image of herself crumbling and her dream job on the l

In Bears With Us, Tempe has her hands full when bears turn up in and around her town, becoming a threat to kids and adults when an elderly woman is horrifically killed. But are bears really responsible, or is there something else afoot? Book Review This is the first book that I have read in this series, even though it is number 11.  I can definitely say that I am going to look for the others in the series. Marilyn Meredith has written characters that are likable and strong.  You actually feel like you are there in Bear Creek right along with them.  I also loved that she had all these great subplots weaving in and out of the book.  There were plenty of twists and turns to keep my interest. My favorite character is Tempe.  I love th
